What changed in the revised Chemistry course?
First examined in May 2025, the course is organised around Structure and Reactivity. Paper 1 has 1A multiple-choice and 1B data and experimental questions; the former options and Paper 3 were removed.
What is the Chemistry IA?
It is a student-designed scientific investigation written up as a report. The teacher marks it and the IB moderates samples. Assessment considers research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation.
What is Paper 1B?
It focuses on data and experimental work: reading graphs, processing data and evaluating methods in unfamiliar contexts.
Do medicine or chemical engineering courses require HL Chemistry?
Many medicine and chemical engineering programmes require HL Chemistry, and some also require another HL science or mathematics. Check the current requirements of each university.
